First Responder PLuS Alliance Fellow and member of UNSW - VIRL Raina MacIntyre is on the frontline of the fight against bio-threats. She explains why the risk of a pandemic must be taken seriously.

Alex, head of disease control and bioterrorism at the Counter Terrorism Unit, is having a terrible day. A suspicious infectious disease is killing hundreds across the city, with experts insisting it is flu. Yet Alex knows it is too early in the season for the virus and wonders instead if it could be a genetically engineered strain of Avian flu?
